Welcome Back to School NJHS Members!

We are so excited about the 2011-2012 school year. We have lots of fun and meaningful activities planned throughout the year.  Listen to the morning announcements for news about meetings.  We will also post meetings on this webpage.  For now, enjoy the first two weeks of school!

Carolyna Osorio emceed this year's National Junior Honor Society's Induction which spotlighted the talents of 8th grade members who led the candlelight service May 10 between 6:00 and 7:00 p.m.  48 members were inducted into the organization this year.  Sgt. 1st Class Clifford Reaume spoke on leadership, and DVMS Alumna Chere Bennett spoke on the importance of grades in junior high, on forming positive educational habits that will follow students through college and life, and about the importance of asking for help when needed.  Over 100 people attended this special recognition of the top students here at Del Valle Middle School.

Part of the Induction ritual is students signing their names in the NJHS registry.

The 2010 DVMS National Junior Honor Society inducted 57 members May 11, 2010. Officers opened the ceremony with the Pledge of Allegiance, and 8th Grader Zulema Roman sang a beautiful rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. Miss Erika Ochoa, a Del Valle alum, visited as a guest speaker and spoke of her experiences from her days at Del Valle Middle School as a National Junior Honor Society member to her present-day success at St. Edward's University. She asked students to consider committing themselves to the five precepts of NJHS: scholarship, character, leadership, citizenship, and service and challenged outgoing 8th graders to go beyond their expectations in high school. Her speech was more than motivating plus it was great having her "home" again. Officers and key speakers for the ceremony included: Heaven Love, Savanna Reyna, Amber Duderstadt, Stephanie Pineda-Banda, Angelica Perez, Jacqueline Ramos, and Zulema Roman. We would like to congratulate the inductees and returning members and thank them for their contribution to Del Valle Middle School. We salute and honor your achievement students!

All inductees were given certificates, membership cards, and a bumper sticker. Returning members in 7th grade were given NJHS memorable pins, and 8th graders were given NJHS keys to represent their ability to determine and destine their future successes. Jean Phipps, William Clements, and Kevin Johnston were on hand to pass out awards, and Principal Jill Dworsky officially received new inductees into membership.

Parents, students, and relatives gathered together to celebrate these students' achievements. Dressed for success, many students posed with their parents after the ceremony for posterity. Here one 7th grader shares his honor with his mother.
