Frequently Asked Questions & Answers
What is the Charge Policy for Students? Earlier this school year DVISD implemented a $6 charge maximum on all student accounts. Students who reach or exceed that amount will not receive a meal for that day. No Ala carte items may be charged at any grade level.
How can I check my child's lunch account? Account balances may be checked on-line at www.parentonline.net , in person in your child's cafeteria or by calling our office at 512-386-3092. Why can't teachers tell my elementary child what to select at lunch? DVISD participates in Offer vs. Serve which allows a student to select what they want to eat as long as they choose an entree and 1 additional item. Teachers may encourage a student but can not force a student to take items.
My child has special dietary needs. What accommodations can the cafeteria make?
Child Nutrition may make food substitutions, at their discretion, for individual children who do not have a disability but who are medically certified as having a special medical or dietary need. Such determinations are only made on a case-by-case basis. This provision covers those children who have food intolerances or allergies but do not have life-threatening reactions (anaphylactic reactions) when exposed to the food(s) to which they have problems. Each special dietary request must be supported by a statement that explains the food substitution that is requested. It must be signed by a recognized medical authority. In these cases, recognized medical authorities may include physicians, physician assistants or advanced practice nurses. The medical statement must include: • an identification of the medical or other special dietary condition that restricts the child's diet; • the food or foods to be omitted from the child's diet; and the food or choice of foods to be substituted. How can I apply for Free or Reduced Price Meals? Applications for free or reduced priced meals can be picked up at each campus or at the Child Nutrition Office located behind Smith Elementary School at 4209 Smith School Road. Completed forms can be turned in to the cafeteria or brought to our office. It may take up to ten days before your application is processed. Once processed a notification letter will be mailed to your home address letting you know if you qualify. You may also complete your Free and Reduced Price Meals Application on-line at http://ws1.del-valle.k12.tx.us
