On Wednesday, September 14th, Ojeda students and staff members wore hats and sunglasses to raise money for Bastrop fire victims. Students could either bring $1 to wear a hat or sunglasses, or $2 for both. They could also bring a canned good in place of money in order to wear a hat or sunglasses.
They raised $250 and almost 200 canned goods for Bastrop. Many students donated money even if they didn't bring sunglasses or a hat. They simply wanted to help out. We are so proud of our Gators for helping the Bastrop community! |

For their yearly service projects, the Ojeda Student Council generously donated funds to our annual Ragin' Cajun celebration. They also spent an afternoon washing the school's windows. Because of their hard work, the school's windows are sparkling clean, and Ragin' Cajun was a huge success.
Student Council meets every Friday during activity time. We're excited to see the positive changes they will bring to Ojeda Middle School!

Ojeda Middle School hosted its 4th annual Gator Fit Night on Wednesday, April 20th. Families came out to Ojeda to enjoy a variety of healthy activities, good food, and presentations.
Students played soccer, basketball, and volleyball, and children enjoyed jumping in a bouncy castle. Mr. Whitley led a salsa dancing class as well.
Students played Wii Sports in the library and enjoyed taking pictures with HEB Buddy.
The Ojeda Middle School staff wishes a big thanks to the entire CATCH team, and DVISD food services for providing healthy snacks, and parents for attending the event. |

Gator Parents Learn English |

The Family Literacy Class has started its second year at Ojeda Middle School. The free class is held every Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, and ESL students and parents attend together. Parents are learning English through creative and engaging lessons presented by Clarena Larrotta, Assistant Professor from Texas State University, San Marcos, Texas.
The students get to practice their English with their parents as they help or show parents to complete tasks. One of the goals of the program is for the parents to learn English. The second goal is for parents and students to learn from each other throughout the 10-week program and practice English together at home.
21st Century invested in the program by purchasing the books and helping care for the children of the parents as they learn in the classroom. There are 14 families participating in the Family Literacy program. Our hope is to continue the program each year and have more families participate.
