Mrs. Brown would like to welcome you and your child to Popham Elementary. Mrs. Brown will meet with your child's class every other week to teach guidance lessons on a variety of topics (i.e. respect, getting along with friends, manners, responsibility, bully prevention, etc.).
The counselor may also meet individually with your child, by parent request or by the child's request. The counselor will be offering student support groups this year for students who maybe experiencing difficulty with separation/divorce of their parents, anger management, friendship, social skills, death of a loved one, etc. The counselor will send home a permission slip for you to sign and return for your child to be able to participate in a student support group. Typically student support groups will meet once a week for 30 minutes for six sessions unless you are notified otherwise.
As a school we are once again working towards making Popham Elementary a Bully Free School. All students in kindergarten through 5th grade will sign a Bully Prevention Pledge noting that they will not participate in bullying of another student and that they will report all bullying incidents to a teacher, counselor or principal the same day it occurs or the next day after the incident. We are asking parents to become active participants in the prevention of bullies at Popham Elementary. In doing so your son or daughter will be bring home the Parent Bully Prevention Pledge for you to sign and return by Wednesday, October 8th. Mrs. Brown have worked out rewards for the classes who have all parent forms signed and returned. Please help your child's class earn their reward by returning the signed parent form.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child, please do not hesitate to contact your child's counselor. Mrs. Brown would be happy to meet with you personally to discuss your questions or concerns. You can reach your child's counselor by calling Popham Elementary at 386-3750 or you may call Mrs. Brown directly.
