Popham strives to serve our students in the safest and most effective manner possible.
Our system of dropping off and collecting students both in the mornings and afternoons is designed to be safe and hassle free.
Here are some pointers to follow:
Drive carefully!
Please drive slowly in school zones. Drop off/ Pick up students only in designated areas.
The safety patrol will be in service every morning, beginning at 7:00 am to help direct traffic and open the doors of the cars. Please do not stop to get students in the crosswalk, or drop them off in areas not marked by the cones at the front of the school.
No Cell Phones in School Zones!
It is now illegal to use cell phones either for talking or texting in a school zone. Anyone caught driving through a school zone talking or texting on a cell phone could face up to a $200 fine (State Law HB 55).
Take the bus to school
We encourage all parents to utilize the district school buses unless you live in the Stoney Ridge neighborhood where bus service is not available. Utilizing the buses will decrease the number of cars dropping off and picking up students and also help the Transportation Department adjust the bus routes quickly.
Drop Off / Pickup Times
The school is open for students at 7:00 AM. The delivery times of students in the morning are from 7:00 to 7:30, and in the afternoon from 2:50 to 3:10 pm. Students are Tardy after 7:30am.
All students not riding a bus enter the school through the front doors only.
(Please be aware that if you drop your students off before that time, they are not supervised by school staff.)
Parking
Parking is allowed only in the front of the school.
Please use the visitor parking spaces in the front of the school or use the street (Proud Panda Drive) in front of the school for parking.
The Elroy Road parking lot is for buses and staff parking only! The parking lot located at the rear of the school, next to the portables, is also only for staff. Please do not use the Elroy Road or rear parking lot during regular school hours.
Please don't park in the areas painted with red curbing. These are for emergency vehicles. There is a $250 fine for parking in these red zones.
Pickup changes
If your child needs to go home a different way (ex: by car instead of by bus), please inform the office by sending a note or calling the office that morning
before 12:00 noon. Calling the office after lunch makes it difficult to make changes before students are dismissed. If you choose how your student will get home in the afternoon and stick with it without frequent changes, it will really help us insure that your child gets home safely.
Bring your ID
Please bring your ID when you come to Popham. All Del Valle ISD schools scan visitor IDs to insure that convicted sex offenders do not gain access to our schools. IDs are needed when picking students up from the office during the school day and after school for regular pick ups waiting in the library. IDs are not needed for evening programs or after school events.
Note to Parents:
If you are going to send someone over to pick up your children, they must have a valid ID and your signed permission on the student information form that is kept in the office.
Help us keep everyone safe by following these directions!
