The Attendance Officers are responsible for improving student attendance, dropout prevention and recovery, conduction of leaver investigations, monitoring and updating leaver files weekly, verifying residences within the District Attendance Zones, and representing the District in truancy court actions. The District Attendance Officers work flexible hours to make home visits to locate missing students. We will recommend the student and their family to social service programs and agencies as needed. Schools with be kept informed of court actions on students and parents as needed.
Essentially, the District Attendance Officers have the powers assigned to them under TEC Section 25.091(b). They are not licensed peace officers and cannot take a child into custody. The Attendance Officers keep up to date and detailed records of any and all dealings with truants, dropouts, and their families. These are school records that can be used in court proceedings.
