Welcome to Popham Elementary!
We have high achieving students, dedicated staff and involved parents. The 2011-12 school year was full of successes for Popham students. End of the year achievement scores were at or above the district averages. Popham has also met the federal guidelines for Average Yearly Progress (AYP) as a Title I school under the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) expectations for each of the school years since the requirement has been in effect including this past school year. The state assessment system changed for 2011-12, and student scores will not be calculated until late December 2012. We anticipate student score reports for parents by January 2013. The reason for the delay is the time it takes the state to calculate passing standards, which have not been completed. Our 2011-12 Popham Student Council was also recognized again as a National Honor Student Council. Our programs serve children in Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade. We anticipate an enrollment of about 650 students for 2012-13. We include students with special needs in regular classes as well as provide special classes to meet individual needs. Our Pre-Kindergarten serves eligible students in half-day classes. Popham provides enrichment opportunities for students in all grade levels. The Popham Student Council offers leadership opportunities for students. Popham has a nationally chartered Elementary National Honor Society for students in grades 4 and 5 who meet the membership criteria. We have high expectations for all students and assist each child to strive towards grade level achievement. Tutoring during the school day and Extended Day classes are available for students who are working below grade level. Various additional special programs are also available. The ACE (After School Centers for Education) Program called Panda Explorers provides after school opportunities for students who are identified as most in need for academic support and enrichment. This program serves about 150 students and includes a parent component as well. Panda Explorers has a limited number of vacancies since the grant has specific requirements for participation. We are happy to announce Popham Parent University for 2012-13. Informational classes, which include a variety of topics of interest to parents, will be presented. Parents will be recognized for their participation with Parent University and their involvement with our school. We strive to serve the social, emotional, academic and physical growth of all of our students. We teach social skills and have a thought for the day each morning during assembly. We expect our students to learn how to behave responsibly in a school setting and in the community. We learn the Popham Keys for Success and recite it each morning during our morning assembly, which we call our community meeting.

We strive to preserve a safe, orderly, and positive school environment. We take pride in our campus and in ourselves as a Popham family of learners. Popham is fortunate to have a variety of business adopters and supporters. We welcome parent and family involvement. Our students thrive when families and school staff work in partnership to help children learn. We teach the whole child and provide wonderful educational opportunities.
